NEW DL1000A - Please note - this new model has Non-H4 headlights and different wiring in many areas. This means the H4 Relay Kit and the ABS Cut Adapter won’t fit. Other adapters are yet unknown for this model. I have made Kits and Adapters specifically for this model here.

PC-8 Fuse Panel

This superb fuse panel is full of all the features every rider has ever wanted and more! Easy to install, well protected, and with 8 mini fuses, one on each output circuit. Includes 8 output grounds too.

This special VStrom edition of the PC-8 Kit includes everything you will need to install in the tool compartment under the seat. However I do have more mounting options on the PC-8 Page should you want to install in an alternate locationl.

Read all the details about the PC-8 on the PC-8 Page.

VStrom Edition: The VStrom PC-8 Kit length is 18 inches and the switching lead has connectors that plug right into the bike’s rear brake light switch connector. I have fit one on my VStrom so that you know it will fit your VStrom perfectly. See the installation page for photos of my installation.

PC-8 with Relay Kit for VStrom $107.95

PC-8/AP-2 Relay Kit Only (No PC-8) for VStrom $49.95

The PC-8 is also available separately on my PC-8 Page.

The 3 Circuit Solution (3CS)

This VStrom version of my 3CS-HD comes with my VStrom Rear Brakelight Connector Relay Switching Adapter, no need to tap any wires on the bike.

This Kit is like a small fuse panel that doesn’t take up much space. I gives you three fused circuits and the components just tuck into unused spaces around the battery.

Headlight Relay Kits can be ordered with a male 2P250-TL-CNA connector factory crimped onto it’s main leads. This will allow you to plug these Kits into the 3 Circuit Solution.

You can install the male 2P250-TL-CNA connector halves onto whatever circuit wires you add.

I have chosen this type of connector because it has large enough terminals to carry a 20A current, and its terminals are easy to solder for the DIYer.

Installation instructions and photos look here

(PDF here)

Switched circuits are turned off when the bike is shut down. An unswitched circuit is always hot so it can also be used for battery charging. NOTE: Connectors on these Kits has been changed, see the main 3CS Page for spares and pics.

Rear Brake Light Switch Connector Relay Switching Adapter

This is the same adapter used on all VStrom Fuse Panel Relay Kits above.

A Sumitomo 2 position .110” connector makes it easy to get a switched power source for switching a relay to control a fusebox or any other accessory on the bike.

All wires are factory crimped into the connectors and sheathed with high temperature VOX sheathing.

Add your own push on terminal to connect to your relay, or use a Posi-Lock to connect your switching wire directly. The adaptor is 24” (61 cm).

No more routing wires way up front, or tapping into the bike’s wiring. The rear brake light switch connector is under the rear of the fuel tank.

The rear brake light switch connector’s hot lead is hot whenever the bike is turned on. It is a perfect place to tap a small current for switching your fusebox or any other accessory.

NOTE: 650 ABS models have the brake switch light connector mounted in the same position, but it’s under the coolant overflow tank. It’s a bit more work to access and connect but it’s not that difficult and still allows a plug and play connection without tapping a wire.

The VStrom does not come with factory headlight relays and so a lot of current flows through the switches and connectors. This causes early meltdown with loss of headlights. This Kit avoids that problem. Do not wait until your switch burns out or a connector melts, install this Kit even on a new VStrom.

Choice of H4 Coupler or a Sealed Posilock option for relay triggering - see H4 Coupler Connection above.

Battery Connection option - has a fuseholder and terminals to connect directly to your battery.

Fusepanel Connection option - main lead wires are longer and sheathed to 6 in (15 cm) from ends (for aux fusepanels like my PC-8).

The 3CS Connection option - has a main lead connector to plug into my 3 Circuit Solution.

Same as regular H4 Dual Kit but with built in wiring for a Headlight Cut Switch (DPST). (Headlight cut adapters also available separately here.)

This Kit cuts both beams of the H4 Socket with the shorter leads. If you want to cut the right headlight, bring in the Kit’s main wiring from the right side. To cut the left headlight, bring in the main wiring from the left side.

You can buy a DPST switch for this Kit here (Toggle) or here (Rocker).

PLEASE NOTE - YOU CAN’T USE THE SPST ON/OFF BARSWITCH ( or any other SPST switch) WITH THIS KIT.

Choice of H4 Coupler or a Sealed Posilock option for relay triggering - see H4 Coupler Connection above.

Battery Connection option - has a fuseholder and terminals to connect directly to your battery.

H4 Dual Headlight Relay Kit with LO Beam On/Off Switching  - all the advantages of the regular H4 Dual Kit but with switching leads that allow you to cut LO Beam both headlights when you want to - when cranking the engine, if your bike is not charging, if your battery is dead, etc

h4d-lobeam-switch_0311
Shown above with Battery Connect main leads (with fuseholder)

Same as regular H4 Dual Kit but with built in wiring for a Headlight LO Beam Cut Switch (SPST).

This Kit is specially for those who want the ability to cut their headlight at startup, or for any other reason (low battery etc).

This Kit will switch the LO beam of BOTH headlights On and Off using a SPST switch.

See my Switches Page for a switch for this Kit.

Choose a Kit with switching connectors according to the switch you will use. If you want to mate with the Handlebar Switch, choose the Bullet Connectors Kit. 1/4 inch pushons will connect to many switches that have 1/4” tabs.

Switching takes place on the low current LO beam relay trigger wire, not on the headlight bulb wires, thereby giving you full power to both headlights when ON, without any Voltage drop inherent in in-line bulb lead switching.

H4 Dual Relay Kit with LO Beam ON/OFF Switching (1/4” pushons) $77.95

Coupler Option
Main Leads Connection

H4 Dual Relay Kit with LO Beam ON/OFF Switching (bullet connectors) $77.95

Coupler Option
Main Leads Connection

Note, bullet connection has shorter switching wires because of wiring on the barswitch, to avoid excessive wire length. This Kit assumes you will use my Handlebar Switch or equivalent with 4mm bullets.

NOTE: The H4 Dual Kit is available with other configurations, for an H4 Dual Kit with other switching options Look on my H4 Kit Page here.

H4 Lo or Hi Beam Cut Adapters

Specially for the VStrom but will work on any H4 System, this adaptor allows you to turn off and on one headlight using any switch taking push on blade terminals. It’s available with push on spades, bullet connectors or Posi-Locks.

This Kit will work with one of my H4 Headlight Relay Kits or with a stock H4 system.

Works on HI or LO beam (depending on model), saves 55 (60 for HI beam) watts of power for your other accessories.

Now you can run a pair of Auxiliary Lights and get that triangulation that you need to be noticed by cars.

All high temperature 100o wire, with high temperature AH-6 sheathing.

Sumitube shrinktube on all terminal crimps to seal out moisture and give excellent strain relief.

H4 Socket plugs onto your one headlight bulb.

Your existing headlight socket plugs onto he H4 Coupler.

36” (92 cm) of wire is enough to reach to the fairing inner panel or to a handlebar switch.

Choice of switch connectors, push on female spades (.250” or .187”), bullet connectors, or Posi-Locks.

Order a switch to go with the adaptor here. I recommend a switch of at least 10A capacity.

VStrom Heated Grip Adapter

Connects to the factory heated grip connector using the connector above. Use for heated grips or other low current accessories. Also useful for relay switching. The stock heated grip connector on the bike has both a switched hot and a ground.

The stock heated grip connector supplies power to this adaptor only when the bike is on.

You can power and ground any low power accessory from this stock plug. However, it is not designed for higher current applications. I would suggest a maximum of 7A for this connector.

If you’re thinking to power a GPS from this connection, be aware that whenever you shut your bike off, power to your GPS will go off too. Many GPS have onboard battery power but it can still be tiresome every time you shut off to push a button on the GPS to get it to continue on battery power. I like my GPS powered full time with backlighting on high.

The Factory Heated Grip Connector - is found behind the left side of the radiator. Often the rad needs to be loosened on the left and moved forward to find the connector. See this page on Stromtroopers for pics to help locate your stock connector.

Specifications:

This adaptor features factory crimped terminals, high temp 16 AWG leads, and high temp sheathing.

Sumitube shrinktube sealed on the connector to keep out moisture and provide wire strain relief.

If you want to buy just the housing and terminals, buy the 2P-HM090 Male on this page.

VStrom Factory Heated Grip to Fuse Panel Adapter

Specifications:

The factory heated grip connector is not the best place to supply power to heated grips. And if you have a fuse panel and the factory Heated Grips, you’ll likely want to connect the factory heated grips to your fuse panel. This adaptor will allow you to do that and get full power to the grips, without having to cut and splice any wires, and avoids placing any extra load on the factory wiring.

Factory crimped terminals on 16 AWG leads with high temperature sheathing.

With the same plug as the factory heated grip plug behind the radiator, this adapter plugs right into the factory heated grips and gives you enough wire to go to your fuse panel.

Adaptor is 36” (92 cm) in length.

VStrom Brake/Tail/Signal Adapters - see installation info here

NOTE: The new DL1000A has different connectors, see here for adapters to fit this bike.

Version 1 - has one wire for each wire in the VStrom’s rear connector. This provides ground, brake light, tail light, and signal lights connection ability. Hyper-Lites flashing LED brakelights can use this adaptor.

Version 2 - is for using a Brake Light Modulator like the Backoff XP, where the modulator goes inline. In this version the tail, signal and ground wires are simply wires joined to the VStrom’s rear wires. The brake light has two wires: red is input, purple is output.

And there are many more possibilities with these adaptors. All without cutting a wire on your bike. Simply plug this adaptor in and then attach your circuits using Posi-Locks or any other connector of your choice. See my Connectors Pages for many choices. Wire lengths are 24” (61 cm). This is plenty of length to reach all the way to the front of the underseat tray.

NOTE: On the VStrom you will find the connector on the left side clipped to the rear subframe. It will be necessary to remove the rear carrier and loosen the tail section to get to this connector and plug in the adapter.

VStrom ABS Switching Adapter - not for new DL1000A

abs-switch-kit2

This adaptor plugs right into the ABS connector near the battery POS post.

NOTE: This Kit needs a heavy duty SPST switch capable of at least 15A. See here for a HD switch.

ALSO NOTE: You won’t be able to use the light on a lighted switch where a light is on when ABS is on, because the VStrom powers the ABS connector even when the bike is off. You can still use a switch with a light, just don’t wire the light to come on.

There are two of these connectors near the POS battery post. Choose the 15A circuit.

VStrom Handlebar Wiring Extensions

barwire-extension-adaptors

These adaptors are handy when you’re adding bar risers and need more length in the stock wiring.

All the adaptors above give a 10 inch (25 cm) extension to the handlebar wires.

PLEASE NOTE CAREFULLY: The VStrom headlight wiring normally runs through these connectors. The VStrom has no headlight relays from the factory so the current is quite high. Eventually heat develops at the point of most resistance. Arcing happens and eventually connection is lost and the connectors look black and burnt. You likely lose your headlights. Adding these adapters without adding headlight relays adds to the overall resistance of the headlight wiring, therefore increasing the chance of a meltdown on a connector. I always recommend adding one of my H4 Dual Headlight Relay Kits to any VStrom, but when adding these bar wire extensions it is a MUST.

About the 4P adapter above: 2012 on DL650s are using this INSTEAD of the Horn Extension. These bikes also use the Left and Right Bar Extensions. The new DL1000A is unknown if it’s changed, or like the 2012 on DL650s. Check yours if unsure.

Early VStrom Right 6P Handlebar Wiring Extension $26.95

Quantity:

vstrom-6p-rs_1566

6P090K-SMHMAbout this adapter: Early VStroms up until about 2004/5 have a 6 position connector on the RIGHT side rather than the standard 8 position connector of later bikes. They also don’t have the extra 2P Horn Connector on the left side. If you have an early VStrom, please check if yours has the 6 position connector before ordering.

If in doubt, check your bike: Remove the fuel tank and look down in front of the air filter. You will see the handlebar wire connections there. I don’t know what the new DL1000A uses, so please let me know if you find out, thanks.
